Day of the Dead

This mosaic was inspired by my visit to Mexico to participate in Día de los Muertos or day of the dead celebrations. The color and richness of this tradition brings to life and honors the deceased members of the community, transfiguring their memories into beautiful art and joyful celebration. My own art seeks to use our collective memory—symbolic memory, aesthetic memory, historical memory—as a means of celebrating and reconnecting to the past in the context of our present lives.
